Saturday Workout

Hello lil chickpeas!

Working out on a Saturday might seem like madness but its the perfect way to start off the weekend! I like to exercise while my boyfriend is still sleeping so he can get a lie in without me bugging him I am a clever cookie!

Here is a great little workout to kick your weekend off…

I used a resistance band during this workout to kick up the intensity but if you don’t have one you can still do it

30 x swinging doors (15 each leg)
– to do this exercise tie the resistance band around both legs on your calfs and with one leg firmly on the floor raise and lower the other             leg, if have bad balance hold on to something.
10 x Burpees
30 x push backs (15 each leg)
– On your hand and knees wrap the band round on foot and hold the bands in your hands now kick your leg back and bring it back in                repeat 15 times and switch
1 minute skipping
15 x squats
– Bring the resistance band to shoulder level and squat as normal
15 x Tricep dips (no band)
30 x Eagle crunches
10 x Leg lifts

Repeat twice and your done. I follow this with a quick 30 minute run but that me!

Let me know how you get on

Recipe of the week: Soup!

Hello everyone,

Happy friday! This week has dragged on and I am relieved to see it end and I am looking forward to having a fun weekend! What are you all getting up to?

This week I have been really getting in to making soup for my lunch as it is such a warming and nutritious thing to have..and if you live in Scotland you will understand my pain right now about how cold it is!

My favourite recipe at the moment is Carrot, Butternut Squash and Chilli Soup!

– 3 Carrots chopped
– Half a small butternut squash chopped
– 1 whole chilli chopped (adjust to suit your spice level)
– 1 chicken stock cube
– 1 onion chopped finely

– In a deep soup pan, sauté the onions until caramelised in a little bit of butter or oil – key thing is to not let the onions burn they should go transulcent.
– Once you have done that add boiling water the stock cube, your veg and the chilli
– Let the soup simmer for 30 minutes or until veg is cooked then blitz
– If you are not a huge fan of spice leave the chilli out and use as a garnish, or some greek yoghurt to cool the heat down

Perfect for the cold winter nights!

November Update

Hello Sweetpeas!

It is getting rather chilly and wintery in Scotland now and the Christmas market is open in Edinburgh! Admittedly I have only just started Christmas shopping but this is a big step for me I am usually very last minute!

Anyway back to the point….I have recently downloaded an app called ‘My Fitness Pal’ which I have used before. I am craving organisation in my life so armed with my app and my journal to write and recored everything down in I am set! This app lets you put in your weight and height and tells you how many calories you should be eating to lose, maintain or gain the weight desired. I will let you all know in a few weeks how I have got on with it!

I have also just bought a smoothie/food processor which I cant wait to get as smoothies are such a great way to cram in lots of great nutrients and vitamins! Here is my current favourite recipe –

Handful of strawberries
Handful of rasberries
Almond milk
Tbs of peanut butter
Blueberries to top

Blend and enjoy!

Sorry things have gone quiet I will get back to normal soon work is just so crazy at the moment. Hope you are all having a good week 🙂

Krav Maga

Hello Everyone,

Sorry things went quiet last week but I am back and this time to talk about a seminar I attended. On Sunday I woke up at ridiculous o’clock (8am..ON A SUNDAY?!) and travelled to Kirkcaldy to take part in a Krav Maga seminar which was 5 hours long and we were taught some of the basics of self defence.

What is Krav Maga?

“Krav Maga is an extraordinary self protection system from Israel. Krav Maga was designed to enable ordinary men and women to protect themselves in the shortest time possible. It is not a martial art; it is a fighting system focused on protecting yourself or the people you love.”

What to expect…

My boyfriend knows Krav Maga and thats how I ended up going to the seminar which was really interesting and fin to learn about. We learned how to kick properly, punch, slap, how to defend yourself from a knife and a baseball bat. We didn’t learn everything it was just a taster but it has defiantly made me feel more confident in knowing that if someone came up to me I would know how to handle it better than I would of before.

Expect pain you are going to get hit and the next day muscles ache that I didn’t even know existed!

I enjoyed pushing myself to do something I normally wouldn’t and wasn’t 100% comfortable with but I will be going back to learn more since I enjoyed it so much.

If you live in Fife and are interested you can look here and if you want to find out more about this form of self defence have a look here!

And I will leave you with some wise words…technique over strength
